Eid Prayer this Friday 9 a.m. at Holiday Inn
Though the original plan was to have Eid Prayer in Cosmo Park, the ICCM announced last night that prayer will officially be held at the Holiday Inn Executive Center in the Windsor Ballroom (directions can be found here http://www.mapquest.com/maps?city=Columbia&state=MO&address=2200+I-70+Drive+Sw). Please note this is not the EXPO Center where we have held Eid Prayer in the past but is the building next to it with the circle drive. Prayer will begin at 9 a.m. and should be done within an hour.
Breakfast and snacks will not be provided at prayer this year because of food restrictions at the venue but, if weather permits, all are invited to head over to Cosmo Park (Lamb and Buford shelter) for breakfast.
Again, if anyone needs a ride to Eid Prayer please send an email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it and we’ll arrange a ride for you insha’Allah.
Community Eid Dinner Saturday, September 18
The community Eid Dinner will be on Saturday, September 18 at Stotler Lounge. Food will be catered insha’Allah and everyone is welcome to attend. There is no cost but the ICCM encourages everyone to donate $1 to cover the cost of the venue for Eid Prayer. If you need a ride to Eid Prayer, please contact us, and we will try to arrange that insha’Allah.
There is no specific MSO event planned for Eid day but we are planning some kind of picnic or dinner for the near future. We will keep you posted but, as always, if you have any ideas or suggestions please send them to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
Muslim Serve Initiative this Saturday
The Islamic Society of North America, one of the foremost Islamic advocacy groups in America, has been encouraging various Muslims to participate in the “Muslim Serve Initiative” on September, 11. The event would only take a couple hours out of the day to give back to our community, particularly on the anniversary of the tragic events of 9/11. We realize this is very short notice but if there is interest, please let us know and we’ll set something up.
Also, we wanted to gauge the reaction of MSO members towards having a regular volunteer initiative for MSO. It would basically be a couple hours once a month for MSO members to get together and give back to the community at places like the Central Missouri Food Bank. This would really go a long way in bringing MSO closer to the community and be a way to practice the Islamic ideals of giving back.
Fast-a-thon Scheduled for October 4
The date for the Fast-a-thon has been set for Monday, October 4 and will be held in Stotler Lounge Room 3 (the room closest to the main entrance). If you do not know where this is, here is a map: http://map.missouri.edu/memorial-union-north.htm.This event gives the MSO a chance to reach out to the community and let them experience a part of our religion. We invite everyone to try fasting for a day, and we’ll come together to break our fast with Iftar and share our experiences. The Fast-a-thon is also a fundraiser and this year all proceeds will go to an organization focusing on Pakistani flood relief. More details including the exact time of the event will be sent out soon.
Pakistan Relief Fundraising Dinner on September 29
The Society of Undergraduate Researchers in the Life Sciences is hosting a networking dinner to raise money for humanitarian relief in the aftermath of the floods in Pakistan. It is scheduled for 7 p.m. September 29 at Stotler Lounge in Memorial Union South. The dinner will be catered and is $10 a person. Again, this dinner is meant to raise money for flood relief efforts so it would be great for MSO members to participate. For more information please take a look at their Facebook event at http://www.facebook.com/#!/event.php?eid=109210215803291&ref=ts.

MSO set to Participate in the Susan G. Komen for the Cure
This is a nation-wide event that raises money and awareness for breast cancer, and provides funding for research and support programs. MSO, along with several other campus organizations, will participate in the 5K run/walk scheduled for Sunday, September 19. Please sign up at http://midmissouri.info-komen.org/site/TR/RacefortheCure/COU_Mid-MissouriAffiliate?team_id=141539&pg=team&fr_id=1691. It is $35 to sign up, but it is for a very good cause and we hope MSO will participate in this event in a big way.
